Travel Tuesday Series: Best of Arizona
My one-year being home is fast approaching and I have been feeling a little nostalgic for the desert I called home during the four years of higher education. I say this all the time, but if I could live anywhere other than Maui...it would be Arizona, more specifically Flagstaff.
While ultimately I am in love with my life here in my little piece of paradise, it doesn’t hurt to reminisce right? So as I am reminiscing, I thought I would share a few of my favorite haunts:
Lake Mary
As I am scrolling through my hard drive, it is pretty obvious that this is one of my favorite escapes. Just a quick 15 minute drive and I am out of the town, away from the stress of the day to day. Whether it is the middle of summer or the start of winter, this is the perfect place to hit the refresh button and take some time for yourself.
Cathedral Rock
Hands down the best hike in Arizona, that I have been on anyways. I love it so much that I have been on it at least five times in the last two years. The uphill climb to the top is an exciting challenge and the view is definitely worth the sweat. If you are ever in the Sedona area and looking for an exciting outdoor activity, Cathedral Rock is something you are going to want on your agenda.
West Fork
Another of Sedona’s bests, this hike offers you a range of sceneries. It might be lengthier than what you are use to, so adjust your itinerary accordingly. My favorite time to do this hike was in early spring! During this time you will find that it will be warm one moment and as you round a bend you will discover a winter wonderland complete with snow. It honestly is an experience in itself, especially if you are not use to the four seasons!
Fossil Creek
The drive in to Fossil Creek is a bit long and quite bumpy but the destination is pretty worth it. Stunning blue-green waters and a chain of waterfalls are just a few of the many perks of making the trip out here. You just have to see it for yourself, I promise you won’t regret it!
Honestly, I could ramble on and on - I seriously love this state. A lovely couple I know is starting a new chapter in Arizona and I think I was a little overwhelmingly...excited I guess would be the nice way of putting it. So, I am going to stop here but stay tuned for more - I have four years worth of AZ destinations to reminisce about.
Keep discovering butterflies!
